Comments:   This is a circulated example of the more common thick planchet variety of the standard 1794 issue (the rarer thin planchet weights about 140 grains). This is a late strike exhibiting a major die break on the reverse from the denticles above the L in "TALBOT" to the rigging of the ship.

Comments:  This is an example of the thin planchet variety of the standard 1795 issue. For 1795 both the thin (140 grains) and thick (151-156 grains) planchet varieties are common. This example is light, even for the thin planchet variety. Besides the obvious differences from the previous year issue in date and lettering there are numerous small differences in the central images. For example on the reverse the rigging on the ship is quite different, notice the two ropes at the front which attach above the top sail, while on the 1794 variety one rope goes over the sail and the other goes behind the sail; this is one of several changes.

Comments:  This coin is also, Dalton and Hamer, Hampshire, Portsmouth, no. 56; Rulau E-NY 886 and Breen 1049. The use of the Liberty and Commerce obverse muled with the various British token reverse proves the British origin for the Talbot, Allum and Lee token. This is an example of a muling with the John Howard token. This specimen is softly struck in the center. The reverse bears a bust of John Howard (1726-1790), Fellow of the Royal Society and social reformer. Note there are several die cracks, most prominent are those opposite the bridge of the nose and opposite his chin. There are also many smaller cracks as just before the top of the H in HOWARD, immediately to the bottom left of the O and a third of the way from the way between the W and the bust as well as below the space between the L and A in PHILANTHROPIST, to name a few.
